Course Description
This course delves into the foundational principles of Islamic jurisprudence, exploring the historical development and social, religious influences shaping the major legal schools. Students will learn about the primary sources of Islamic law and develop a basic understanding of the principles used by jurists to interpret and understand legal, religious texts such as the Qur’an and Sunnah. The overall objective of this course is for students to appreciate the wisdom behind Islamic legal rulings, appreciate the depth of our scholarly tradition, and feel empowered in their faith practices in their current context.
