HDTH-102: The Prophetic Tradition, Then & Now

Whether understanding historical developments or addressing modern controversies, the ability to navigate the Hadith tradition is essential for making sense of the past, present, and future of the Islamic world. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the foundational concepts, technical terms, and methodologies of Hadith Studies. Students will explore how scholars have historically assessed the authenticity of prophetic reports, categorized narrations based on their reliability, and employed rigorous methods to ensure the preservation of the Prophet’s teachings.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Ustadh Sohaib Sheikh

Ustadh Sohaib is a graduate of the Qalam ʿAlimiyyah program. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Arts from AlMaghrib Institute. He memorized the Quran and received traditional Ijazat in the ten recitations of the Quran (Sughra and Kubra). He has worked extensively with Islamic organizations like Young Muslims, MSA, Why Islam, and AlMaghrib. Additionally, Ustadh Sohaib gives khutbahs and talks around the Dallas area. He serves as an Instructor in both the Qur'ani Literacy Program as well as the Associates Program.
